Effective Processing Rate Calculator
See what percentage of your card sales goes to payment processing fees. Use card sales and fees from the same statement period.
Enter the total dollar amount of card payments processed during the statement period.
Enter total card sales greater than $0.
Enter the total processing-related fees charged during the same statement period.
Enter processing fees of $0 or more.
What should I include?
Include the fees charged for accepting card payments during the same period. Depending on your processor, this may include transaction fees, percentage-based processing fees, interchange and assessment charges, and processor fees.
Your effective rate depends on which fees you include. Fixed account, gateway, equipment, chargeback, PCI, or other merchant-service fees may also appear on your statement.
Your effective processing rate
What does this mean?
Your effective processing rate shows how much you paid in processing costs as a percentage of your card sales. It can help you compare your actual cost across statements or pricing arrangements.
Your effective rate alone does not show whether your pricing is competitive. Card mix, transaction type, sales channel, ticket size, pricing model, fixed fees, and other factors can materially affect processing costs.
Assumption: This calculator uses the fees you enter as your total processing cost. Your result therefore depends on which fees are included from your merchant statement.
